Southeastern Kenya
Tsavo
One of Kenya’s largest parks. Dusty red elephants, volcanic hills, Mzima Springs, and a sense of true scale.
Red earth wilderness
Why we keep sending people here
Tsavo is where Kenya still feels unfinished. The soil stains everything red, including the elephants. Mzima Springs is a walk above a clear pool of hippos, and the Shetani flow looks like the ground forgot to cool. We use it as the first half of a southern circuit, then roll into Amboseli or the coast.
Best time: June – October and January – February.
Getting there
Tsavo West is roughly four hours down the Mombasa road. Tsavo East is wilder and better paired with a coast finish.
Where you sleep
Lodges near the rhino sanctuary in the west, or river camps in the east.
Who it suits
Travellers who have already seen the Mara and want space, geology, and fewer vehicles.

Wildlife you can reasonably expect
Elephant, Lion, Giraffe, Kudu, Crocodile, Hippo. “Expect” is not “guarantee”. We would rather you arrive curious than disappointed by a promise.
