TSAVO NATIONAL PARK

Overview

Divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West, this vast park is one of Kenya’s largest and offers diverse landscapes, including savannah, volcanic hills, and dramatic scenery. Tsavo is particularly famous for its large populations of elephants, often referred to as the “Red Elephants” due to the red soil in the park. In addition to elephants, the park is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species.

Key Attractions:

 1.Mzima Springs

Located in Tsavo West National Park, Mzima Springs is a series of crystal-clear natural springs fed by underground water flowing from the Chyulu Hills. The springs provide a vital water source for wildlife and are famous for their resident hippos, Nile crocodiles, and abundant fish species. Visitors can enjoy guided walks and an underwater viewing chamber that offers a unique glimpse into the aquatic life below the surface.

 2. Shetani Lava Flow

The Shetani Lava Flow is a striking volcanic feature created by ancient eruptions. Its vast expanse of black lava rock forms a dramatic and otherworldly landscape, making it one of Tsavo West’s most fascinating attractions. Visitors can explore the area while learning about the geological history and local legends associated with the lava flow.

3. Aruba Dam
Situated in Tsavo East National Park, Aruba Dam is a popular wildlife-viewing spot that attracts large numbers of animals, especially during the dry season. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and numerous bird species are frequently seen around the dam.
